Rene Padilla One of the leading South American theologians was Crowther Centre Missiologist in Residence from August 2008.Dr Rene Padilla grew up in Ecuador and Colombia, studied in England and now lives in Buenos Aires in Argentina.
He was a member of the staff of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students for Latin America from 1959 to 1982. General Secretary of the Latin American Theological Fellowship from 1983 to 1992 and founding member of the Kairos Community of Buenos Aires, 1976 to the present.
Currently, Rene is Emeritus President of the Kairos Foundation and Director of Kairos Books.The Kairos Foundation is a Christian service agency whose raison d'etre is to facilitate the reflection on and the practice of integral mission on the part of local churches. It also promotes the Micah Challenge in Argentina.
Rene writes: “The Micah Network is an encouraging sign of the present-day awakening of the social conscience among evangelicals around the world. Its major strength is that it provides a unique space for evangelical Christians from all over the world to grow together in their understanding and practice of Christian discipleship in a global world affected by consumerism, injustice, and oppression.
"My hope is that it will find ways to strengthen practical partnership across national borders in order to counteract the negative aspects of globalization and to globilize human solidarity.”
Rene was at the Crowther Centre, together with his wife Catharine, till the end of November 2008.
