A wealthy atheist joins “the fools”

An affluent rancher in Uruguay, who once told Latin partner Gonzalo Soria that “Christianity is for fools”, has turned to Jesus and joined the church Gonzalo leads in Fray Bentos.

“When I first met Conrado, he was a convinced atheist…at the end of our conversation I asked if I could pray for him, and our prayer groups started to hold him in prayer.”

A few days later, Conrado asked if he could come to Gonzalo’s church “just to see what communion was like.” This one visit led to several others. “Conrado is now a regular member of our community and firmly in God’s hand,” said Gonzalo.

Supermarket surprise

“Bless me pastor!” a young man called out to Latin partners Ian and Simea Meldrum in the supermarket.

The young man’s name was Leandro and 10 years ago, when he was troubled 15-year old, he’d stayed at My Father’s House, a haven for at-risk boys from the dangerous streets of Olinda, Brazil.

Simea said, “Leandro told me that the faith he’d discovered with us had not left him; he’s now serving in a church! Praise the Lord for this long-term transformation!”
