Hackers can't stop Christian TV channel

Sat-7 Pars intends to expand Christian programming despite challenges

SAT-7 PARS, the channel broadcasting gospel-centred programming in Farsi across the Middle East, saw a 93 per cent increase in viewer responses in 2011.

According to Sara Afshari, station director, using new media helped bring about this increase during a time of intense opposition to Iranian Christians.

Sara said the website and phone numbers had been blocked and their online messenger accounts hacked.

Amidst these challenges, the SAT-7 PARS team is heading into its 10th year of being a lifeline for Iranian Christians and seekers. Their ninth anniversary was celebrated with a first-ever live programme.

“We received approximately 100 on-air calls from viewers expressing their gratitude,” Sara said.

Plans for 2012 include more youth and children’s programming, as there are no Iranian Christian stations for children. “It’s a big step, but we serve a God for whom nothing is impossible,” said Sara.
