A new stage in South American partnership

A joint statement from the Province of the Southern Cone and SAMS/CMS

CMS and SAMS leader meet Southern Cone bishops and church leaders

SAMS/CMS and the leadership of the Province of the Southern Cone met recently in Salta, Northern Argentina for several days of fellowship and dialogue, considering their ongoing partnership in mission.

The discussions were held in the context of the half-yearly meeting of the House of Bishops and the Provincial Executive Council. Bishop Greg Venables who, as Primate, presided over the meetings said that “this was a crucial moment which provided the opportunity for robust and clear communication; it has proved to be a constructive step forward in our shared commitment to world wide mission”.

Colleagues were also able to participate together with the Amerindian church in the Argentine Chaco at the consecration service of the new Northern Argentine suffragan bishop, Nick Drayson. There were 120 communities represented with their own ordained ministers and over 800 people present in the open air arena. People came from near and far with seven bishops present. The preacher was the first diocesan bishop of the diocese and, a former Bishop of Southwell, Patrick Harris.

These events mark a new stage in the SAMS/CMS–Southern Cone partnership in mission.

The news item says that there was communication and dialogue. Perhaps the news item can be expanded to let us know what was communicated and what were the subjects of the dialogue.
