Missiologist in Residence
Jehu J Hanciles

Jehu J Hanciles was born in Sierra Leone, where he also earned his BA degree at Fourrah Bay College (University of Sierra Leone). His MTh and PhD he gained at the University of Edinburgh. He has lived and worked in Sierra Leone, Scotland, Zimbabwe and the US.

Currently, he is associate Professor in Mission History and Globalisation, and his recent research focusses on the impact of migration on the spread of world religions, such as Islam and Christianity. Most of his publications are on issues related to mission and globalisation. African Christianity is also an important area of interest for Hanciles.

It is a great privilege for CMS, and particularly for the Crowther Centre for Mission Education, to welcome Jehu Hanciles as Missiologist in Residence from 24 November to 15 December 2007. Both his research interests and his personal background and experience will be of great value to CMS in their reflection on how to be a mission organisation in our time.

Jehu Hanciles will lecture at the official opening of the Crowther Centre for Mission Education at CMS on 4 December and give two special workshops/seminars: one for representatives of the theological colleges in Oxford and one for the Chaplains of the different colleges in Oxford.
