Welcome to the online area that reflects the prayer needs of the CMS community of mission around the globe.

Thank you for your faithful prayers.

 Scripture meditation
Romans 15:13 - May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
 Africa
DR Congo - Pray for the Diocese of Bukavu: a fire occurred during the night of Fri 28 Nov. The fire was caused by an electrical short-circuit and a lack of effective means to put out the fire. Much material was lost, not human life. Synod was due to begin Sun 30 Nov to 7 Dec. Please pray for encouragement for the Diocese.
DR Congo - Continue to pray for the people of eastern DRC, especially for the implementation of the promised increase in troops for the MONUC force. Please see Congo: what can we do? on the CMS site for more prayer points.
Emil & Mano Chandran - Please pray for good heatlh for Emil and Mano Chandran in Nairobi. Emil has had the cast removed from his arm after an accident but still doesn't have full movement back.
Kisiizi Hospital, Uganda - Give thanks for the many people who have supported Bill and Wanda Lovett recently and prayed for healing for Wanda, as well as giving acts of kindness and loving support. Give thanks that Wanda's ear responded well to treatment. Continue to pray that her ear will remain settled after she has returned to Kisiizi on Sun 7 Dec. Pray for Wanda's return to the School of Nursing and for a clear role.
 Asia
Continuing persecution in Orissa - Please continue to pray for the Christians in Orissa, South India, as they are facing ongoing persecution. This week at least two local Christians have lost their lives - Digal, a 25-year-old catechist died in a relief camp due to the lack of proper medication, and Lalita D, a 45-year-old woman was allegedly murdered as she left the relief camp to work the fields. Pray for the end of violence and for those families who mourn their loved ones.
Mumbai blasts condemned - Archbishop Vincent M Concessao, the Archbishop of Delhi and the President of the National United Christian Forum (NUCF), which represents Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI), National Council of Churches in India (NCCI) and Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI), has strongly condemned the terror attacks in Mumbai. Extending his heartfelt condolences to the relatives of those who have lost their lives in the violent attack on innocent people for no rhyme or reason, the archbishop along with other members of NUCF has offered prayers for the repose of the souls of those that departed from this world. He has also expressed his "get-well soon wishes", to the injured in these attacks. Totally shocked at hearing the news of the unprecedented incident on unsuspecting victims, the Archbishop has appealed to all people of goodwill to come forward to extend all help to the victims and their families in the true Christian spirit of love.
Pakistan - Pennell High School in Bannu, North West Frontier Province (run by the Diocese of Peshawar) was hit by missiles last week. No one was injured but there was considerable damage. Pray for security of people in the Frontier part of Pakistan and peace in the area.
Pakistan - Mission partner Freda Carey asks: "Please pray for the meeting on 5 December of the Executive Committee of the United Bible Training Centre for women in Gujranwala, where I have been teaching for the past five weeks. Important decisions need to be made in planning for next year, as several teaching staff have left recently or are leaving soon. Pray too for the 10 students, as they do their final exams next week before their graduation on 13th December. Pray for them as they return to their homes and seek God’s will for how they should use the training they have received.
Pakistan - Please pray for the Christmas programmes which will be held on Sat 6 Dec in Quetta.
Please pray for Thailand at Christmas-time - CMS mission partner and Director of RainbowLand Child Development Centre (RCDC) Gail Phillip, asks us to pray for Thailand as we approach Christmas. Gail has been reminded that Jesus was born into a nation suffering political turmoil and unrest. Jesus came as the Prince of Peace into a situation that was far from peaceful. Thank God for many opportunities to share the wonderful news of the sure hope we have in Christ. Just last weekend two staff members in RCDC Banchang have put their faith and trust in Jesus. Please pray that there will be many more. Please also pray for RCDC Father’s Day events on Wednesday and Thursday (3rd & 4th of December) and Christ Church’s Christmas events on 19-21st December on the theme of ‘From the Manger to the Cross’. Pray that there will be a good response to these invitations.
Political situation in Thailand - Gail Phillip, CMS mission partner, has asked us to pray for the political situation in Thailand. On Wednesday 26 November thousands of protesters from the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) took over the two main airports in Bangkok – Suvhanaphum and Don Muang. A second movement is now gathering strength, the UDD (United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship) are rallying more support, insisting that the government should not step down and that there be no more military coups. The concern now is that if the two groups should clash there would be inevitable bloodshed, although both groups maintain they are committed to non-violent means. Please pray for peace and also for stability as this affects Thailand’s tourism industry and economy.
 Europe
Hundreds come to Christ in the Middle East - Give thanks for the news we have received that 500 people have come to Christ in the last year alone in a middle-eastern country. This people's movement was initiated by some expat workers but is now fuelled by faith and dedication of local believers. God is at work in the Middle East!
Sian Hawkins - Give thanks for the ministry of Sian Hawkins as she finishes formal mission partner service with CMS this week. Sian has faithfully served CMS in Central Asia and then with A Rocha UK in Southall as Director of the Living Waterways Project. Please pray for Sian as she continues with PhD studies in Peace and Reconciliation and as she develops her skills as a personnel training consultant.
Speaking in Royston - Please pray for Jonny Baker as he speaks to a church in Royston on Mission in Europe and Fresh Expressions of Church.
 Oxford (UK)
Car boot church - On Blackbird Leys, the estate near to the CMS centre, mission partners Helen and Patrick Mukholi, have for a long time been wanting to have a Christian presence at the enormous car boot sale held every Sunday morning at Oxford United’s car park on the edge of the estate. Last Sunday it suddenly happened. Here is a quote from one of those involved: “I'm so glad I went this morning, it was a great experience and despite the weather was a successful first attempt. I think there is a real need for the church to be there, to lift the spirits of the people with music, tea and a chat. Just for one person to say that we were an inspiration means the early start and cold toes were worth it, for people to say God bless to us before we've even had to say it to them means that we've had an impact..."
 Personnel and training
CMS selection conference - Please pray for the CMS mission partner selection conference running at Offa House, Leamington Spa from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 November. Please pray for openness to God's leading and clarity in decision making. Pray for the assessors who are giving their time to support our process and discern with CMS and candidates if this is the route God is leading them. Please pray for the candidates (three people) that they will be aware of God's presence as they share their sense of calling and are affirmed in the journey he is leading them on.
 CMS Encounter teams
Pearce Family Encounter - Please pray for Caroline and Mike Pearce who are preparing to visit Kenya for 10 weeks to spend time with Mission Together Africa. They will be helping in an orphanage and take with them their three boys. They leave on 10 December, please pray for safe travels and that God will be with them in the preparations.
Sierra Leone - Give thanks for the safe return of the Sierra Leone team from Holy Trinity Clapham, pray for continued good health and wellbeing as they settle back into life in their own culture again. They had a wonderful time visiting the diocese and making contact with new friends.
