PrayerSpace

Welcome to the online area that reflects the prayer needs of the CMS community of mission around the globe.

Above all things, CMS values your prayers. We try to provide as many resources as possible to inform and encourage your prayers for mission around the world – as well as down your street. There are links in the right-hand column to some of them.

You can subscribe to an email digest of these prayer items, sent every Friday, using the link on the right.

Thank you for your faithful prayers.

 Scripture meditation
Luke 12:6-7 - Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
 Africa
Burundi - Evariste a colleague of Steve and Lucy Mcllhenny's is due to attend a week long training course in early September. Pray that he will benefit from the training and that the Bethesda project will benefit from what he learns.
Burundi - Lucy and Steve Mcllhenny ask pray for them and Steve's parents as they spend the next 2 weeks together on holiday. Pray that they will experience quality time in South Africa and that returning to Burundi after the holiday will not be as difficult as they fear.
Burundi - Lucy and Steve Mcllhenny ask thanks to God that an agreement has been reached with the local Catholic Centre for people with disablilities. An agreement is being drawn up and hopefully before long they will be able to work together with the disabled young people from the centre.
DR Congo - Pray for Rev Bisoke Balikenga on 9th September as he has a meeting with the Youth Leaders in the city of Kinshasa to discuss the needs of the youth within Kinshasa Diocese and city. Pray for wisdom and guidance as they plan the teaching that is needed for 2011
Ghana - Give thanks for Rebecca Berchie, a a local youth leader from St Cyprian Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi Diocese. She recently attended a CMS Africa vision seminar - and got a vision for environmental stewardship, mobilising a group of young people to plant grass and trees in the cathedral compound. "With this work, it was evident that Rebecca and colleagues had a mindset change - they saw the need to revamp the beauty of their God-given surroundings. They not only changed their own thinking, but influenced youth from other parishes to have similar passion for the environment," writes Kofi deGraft Johnson of CMS Africa.
 Asia
Central Asia - Robert (a friend) asks for prayer as he continues to look for an apartment in his new city. He is frustrated by lingering illness too, but rejoicing at a very successful camp for young people. Pray that he will be further encouraged and blessed.
Pakistan - Continue to pray for Nigel Bull (mission partner) seconded to work on flood response with Tearfund in Sindh. Remember his colleagues too as they meet so many people in great need of food, water and shelter.
Pakistan - The Diocese of Hyderabad is planning to run two relief camps in the city for people displaced by the floods. Pray for the organisation and support for them.
Pakistan - Continue to remember the work of our partner the Pak Mission Society, working to feed and shelter people in the northern part of the country. Pray for wisdom as they consider how to best help resettle families displaced and made destitute by the floods.
 Latin America
Paraguay - Tim Curtis - Pray for Tim Curtis and the Enxet Bible translation team (Martin, Juan and Asuncion) who are systematically checking translation work. "Intensive checking, constant reading through the texts is quite mentally tiring, so we would value your prayers for stamina," writes Tim. "Our UBS consultant Tito La Haye spent a few days with the team this August, encouraging us and seeing how the checking is going. We continue to encourage local Enxet speakers to improve their reading. Some of the young readers visit us in the evening when supper for them (cooked by me!) is also offered."
Peru - Paul and Sarah Tester have just returned to their youth and children's work in Peru and ask prayer "for ease in resettling in Lima; for those leaders who have been continuing to serve in Peru whilst we’ve been away, particularly that they will continue on our return; for wisdom in considering where to place our energies on our return."
Peru - Pray for the growing ofleadership in the church of Peru, especially the role of our associate mission partner Ian Montgomery, charged by Bishop Bill Godfrey to mentor, teach, encourage and come alongside his clergy in Peru. "In 1998, there were just four Peruvian priests and one deacon looking after nine congregations, with the help of two ordained missionaries from overseas. Currently, Anglicans gather in 55 worshipping communities, led by 26 priests, 10 deacons and 23 lay ministers. About 23 students attend our seminary, preparing for ministry."
