Anglican bishops from Burma, in Britain for the Lambeth Conference, made a brief morning visit to CMS in Oxford.
On the morning of Tuesday 15 July, CMS welcomed all eight Anglican bishops from Burma to CMS House.
The bishops were in Britain for the Lambeth Conference and visited CMS as part of a programme organised by the Diocese of Winchester, which hosted them prior to the conference.
The bishops, led by Archbishop Stephen (seated third from the right in the photo above), who is also Bishop of Yangon, were welcomed by CMS Finance Director Adrian White, who formerly spent time in Burma.
The Burmese bishops, their wives, CMS Regional Director Philip Simpson and some representatives from Winchester Diocese(Photo: © Seth Crewe/CMS)Regional Manager Adrian Watkins led them on a tour of the building. There was then a short time of interaction with, and hearing from, the bishops.
Besides learning about CMS, the bishops spoke briefly about the size of the Church in Burma and its Anglican identity, their work in the areas of education and health and, more recently, the way in which the Church has helped to bring relief to the victims of the catastrophic Cyclone Nargis.
The bishops were very encouraged to renew their connection with CMS, hoped the relationship can develop in the future and suggested that support for training a new generation of church leaders could be a key means of engagement.
All who met the bishops during their short visit were blessed by their joyful faith in Christ.
