Life-changing courses: the SEAN team in Ecuador

The life-changing effects of a training course directed by CMS people in mission are being felt throughout Ecuador and Colombia.
“I was once an atheist and Maoist activist,” a man named Carlos said.
“Then my wife Yolanda and I came to know Jesus. We knew very little of God’s word. SEAN (Study by Extension for All Nations) studies revolutionised our lives.
“We are dentists and quite a few patients have come to know Jesus in our surgery. Also, we are involved in a new church in our neighbourhood, where there is little Christian witness.”
This was one of many stories shared with Terry Barratt, CMS associate mission partner and international director of SEAN during a recent trip to Ecuador.
A small church in Guaranda started using SEAN courses in 1988. Today this church has started 38 daughter churches.
Another pastor, David, saw the value of serious discipleship training. Using SEAN materials, his congregation has grown to more than 3,000 members.
The use of SEAN courses contributed to the famous Bellavista Prison revival in Medellin, Colombia in the 1990s. Terry was told that this reduced crime and violence so much that Co-lombian authorities have allowed prison Bible ministries in 21 prisons throughout Colombia.
SEAN was started by Terry’s father, Tony Barratt, and is in over 100 countries and 70 languages.
