Francesca Elloway
Francesca is a CMS mission partner working as the medical adviser to the Diocese of Aru, in the Ituri region in north east DR Congo, where she has been since 1994. Her work involves medical work including consultations, ward rounds and emergency visits, teaching, administration, fundraising and generally supporting her Congolese colleagues who have taken over the running of the Service Medical, the diocesan medical department, from her. The Service Medical is currently responsible for two hospitals and seven health centres, some in quite isolated situations, and Francesca is involved particularly in supporting the medical and nursing staff at these establishments, each of which has 20–50 inpatient beds along with a maternity unit and laboratory facilities. Over the last couple of years Francesca has been studying for a diploma in palliative medicine and at the same time starting to introduce palliative medicine into the area.
Debbie and Hugh Skeil
Debbie and Hugh are CMS mission partners working at the Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, South India. Known everywhere as “CMC Vellore”, this is a huge teaching hospital that seeks “to be a witness to the healing ministry of Christ”. It is highly regarded for its medical education, expert specialists and ethical standards. Debbie is a doctor, and has been enjoying a return to clinical work 10 years after developing arthritis. She goes into the Rehab Institute two or three sessions a week. Her work involves seeing people with brain injuries and children with cerebral palsy, helping with teaching sessions and developing a specialist children’s unit. At home she continues with computer based work and teaching students hospital administration. An accountant by profession, Hugh is the manager of the Development Office. This aims to raise charitable funds for the hospital,
Ruth Sayers
Ruth has been working in the Middle East as a CMS mission partner for the past nine years. After starting out with CMS as a short term volunteer in Egypt, Ruth completed her time there as a full mission partner. This was then followed by two years spent working in Bethlehem, West Bank at Bethlehem Bible College. After experiencing visa problems, remaining in Palestine became difficult so Ruth was able to move to Jordan where she was able to continue working under the auspices of the Diocese of Jerusalem. There have been many opportunities for her in Jordan and currently she is working part time for Bishop Suheil Dawani and the diocesan office, and part time for the Bishop’s School teaching English and overseeing the Upper and Lower School libraries.
