It takes a ‘Village’ to save a child

Baby Peter: before and after receiving life-saving care at Potter’s Village

Baby Peter, one month old, was starving and in a coma when he was brought to Potter’s Village childcare centre in Kisoro, Uganda last Autumn, but thanks to the care of CMS mission partner Jenny Green and her team, he is now thriving.

“His mother had died during childbirth, and the family had tried to feed him with diluted cow’s milk,” Jenny explained.

“He arrived at death’s door and received intensive care with hourly feeds.”

Peter is one of dozens of children with similar stories who are currently receiving quality care at Potter’s Village, which Jenny set up in 2006 with the Church of Uganda to care for abandoned and vulnerable little ones. “Our goal is to save lives,” she said.

“Without this ministry every baby here would have died. Thanks to the generosity of many donors from the UK and beyond, we can provide loving Christian care for an increasing number of little ones.”

Potter’s Village also finds homes for children when they can. Michael and Abel are two toddlers who have recently been placed with families.

Having raised them practically from birth, Jenny said, “It is always wonderful to see them leave with a family that will love them, but sad to see them go.”

In March the Chief Administrative Officer for the district inspected Potter’s Village and was so impressed with the project he wrote a glowing letter of commendation.
