1. Am I fit enough? The challenges we offer range from moderate to very tough, so there is something for everyone. Even if you take on a very difficult challenge, as long as you prepare in plenty of time by training and have the right mental attitude you will be amazed at what you can achieve! We have had people of all ages - from 17 – 70! - and levels of fitness take part in our challenges, and all of them have completed their event successfully. The tour operators can offer help and guidance along the way. There are even special training weekends available.
2. How much does it cost? This depends on which payment option you choose. If you choose the fundraising option, you pay a registration fee and agree to raise the minimum fundraising target. This amount is then used to cover your tour costs, with the remainder (at least 50% of what you raise) coming to CMS. The minimum target amount varies according to the challenge.
If you choose the self-payment option, you pay your registration fee and tour cost and then raise as much as you possibly can for CMS!
3. What if I don’t reach the fundraising target? We can offer plenty of tips and advice for your fundraising – make sure you let us know if you’re struggling. It is sometimes possible to transfer to a later trip or switch to the self-payment option.
4. How do I collect sponsorship money? The easiest and most efficient way to collect sponsorship is by setting up a JustGiving account. People can give online, anonymously if they prefer, and JustGiving claim the Gift Aid for us and transfer the money directly to CMS. Go to www.justgiving.com and follow the step-by-step guide to setting up a fundraising page. Contact Hannah if you need any help with this.
If you prefer to collect your sponsorship in cash, you can use our sponsorship form. Please make sure you use our official Gift Aid wording, as shown on the sponsorship form, to enable us to claim an additional 28% on your donations.
5. What will the money I raise be spent on?Our sponsored challenge participants raise money for the general funds of CMS, which is fantastic as it helps us with all the costs involved in recruiting, sending and supporting mission partners to share Jesus and change lives around the world.
If there is a specific area of our work that you are particularly passionate about, if you can raise over and above your fundraising target, we may be able to arrange for a proportion of your sponsorship to support that work.
6. Who will I be trekking/cycling/riding with?Because the challenges we offer are Open Challenges, you will be joining a team of people who are all raising money for different charities. In some cases there will be another person raising money for CMS, and in these cases we will make sure we put you in touch beforehand so you can compare notes and even meet up if you want to.
Even if nobody else on your challenge is raising money for CMS, everyone taking part will be working hard to raise sponsorship for their chosen charity and there will be a special team atmosphere on the challenge. You will no doubt have many opportunities to share Jesus with your fellow trekkers/cyclists/riders as you go!
7. How do I sign up?Once you have decided you’d like to join a trip, you can either contact Hannah at CMS and ask for a registration pack, or contact the relevant tour operator directly (on their websites you can find online booking forms and contact details). Either way, please do let us know that you are signing up!
