CMS partners are among those struggling to bring aid to thousands of families made homeless by yet more severe floods in Sindh province, Pakistan.
With six million people now affected, workers from the Primary Education Project of the Diocese of Hyderabad have been bringing relief to families in many of the 100 or more villages where they run community schools.
The PEP team were among the first to act when the villages they work in were hit by new floods this year. Many communities in Pakistan have barely recovered from the disastrous floods of 2010.
John Hayward, CMS regional manager, reports from Pakistan: "Millions of people are still affected by flooding in Sindh. Fields will not be fit for planting food crops until March, so there is a long winter of extreme poverty ahead of many people.
"Some relief has been distributed but the main work will be to help reconstruct homes as people return to their villages. CMS is in need of funds to help in this desperate situation, supporting the efforts of the new bishop of Hyderabad and mission partners."
CMS is not an aid agency, but we do want to support trusted local partners whose longstanding service to their local communities makes them well-placed to respond when emergencies strike.
CMS manager for Pakistan, John Hayward, reports that a disaster risk reduction training programme will be delivered during the winter after several months of planning with local partners, in order to help inhabitants of the rural districts of Sindh be better prepared to survive future natural disasters.
Please help local Christian partner organisations help more devastated families.
