CMS Africa

Renewed mindsets, transformed communities

CMS Africa exists to see every church committed and engaged in evangelistic, transforming mission at every level of society.

The centre of the World Church has indisputably moved to the global south. In Africa the Church is both vibrant and growing on the one hand, yet nominal on the other.

CMS in Africa therefore sees discipleship at the core of all that we seek to do on the continent. The need for servant leaders is urgent.

Africa is largely a young and rapidly urbanising continent with an average of 60 per cent below the age of 25 years. This is exacerbated by the fact that HIV and AIDS has reduced life expectancy in some countries to a mere 35 years of age. Despite the continent's tremendous natural resources Africa continues to be ravaged by: poverty, unemployment, poor health, bad governance - in particular corruption, environmental degradation. Literacy is still a challenge for the majority. There are increasingly both tensions and opportunities for those living in multi-faith communities. The need for holistic discipleship is urgent.

CMS Africa are working to envision, equip and mobilise the church in Africa to make a transforming difference in Africa and beyond. This includes equipping local churches to identify and initiate local responses to brokenness in their communities by using local resources to meet local needs.
