Bangalore, India’s sophisticated ‘silicon valley’: thousands of young people have poured in from all over India and south-east Asia to study.
Often from sheltered family backgrounds, they come to the big city and experience loneliness and all the bewildering opportunities of the big city.
CMS Timothy mission partner Debbie Lalnunhlui Ralte left her home in Mizoram to serve with Kerygma Urban Youth Ministries in this city with one of the highest suicide rates in India.
She would tell you of the many young people in Bangalore battling drug and alcohol addictions, broken families and sexual, physical and emotional abuse.
With a dedicated team, Debbie shares Jesus by visiting young adults living in hostel accommodation, as well as running camps and discipleship groups. Those impacted recently include –
-
Julia: Born in a Christian family but came to realise she did not have a real relationship with God.
-
Lydia: Who had never known a mother’s love or a father to depend on. Through the care of the Kerygma team God became real to her. Like many lives touched by Kerygma, Lydia is now sharing the love of Jesus with others.
Your gift will help us keep changing lives like this – and go on doing so into the future. |
My story
"It’s amazing how God is changing me everyday, now I have found a new confidence knowing my true identity in Christ Jesus," says 'Shirley', a Coffee Talk regular.
She had been dating a boy with a drug habit. She rang one of the Kerygma team in tears one night - she had decided to break up with her boyfriend and be free of the habits that were affecting her too. The Kerygma staff prayed on the phone, and went to visit the next day.
“Prior to beginning this personal relationship with God, whenever I felt hurt, I would turn to alcohol and drugs to take away the pain.
"But now, I start to pray and I feel God’s presence in my heart and no matter how much hurt I feel, I believe God always works in ways that are best for me and I trust him with my life.
"Perhaps God allowed this to happen for my own good.” Shirley is now attending the Kerygma discipleship programme. |
