Raising money for mission

Iringa, Tanzania…
Hasina was married with a young child when an infection in her legs led to amputation. Her husband left her to support herself and their child, but nobody would employ her. This is because in Tanzania, disabled people are considered “almost sub-human, a mistake, a curse” says Susie Hart, CMS mission partner in Tanzania. That’s why she started Neema Crafts—to train and employ disabled people and show Tanzanians that all people have value in the sight of God. At Neema Hasina learned to make jewellery, which gave her a source of income. She also received prosthetic legs. Realising he’d been wrong to cast her off, her husband has returned.

Pune, India…They are often sick and undernourished. At just a few years old they may have already witnessed acts of sexual assault or been abused themselves. They bear the shame of their mother’s profession. They are the children of the red light district. Fortunately, people like CMS co-mission partner Dr Lalita Edwards make it their business to minister to the marginalised. In November 2007 she started a crèche for children of women who’ve been forced into being sex workers. The crèche serves 25 children from 5-9:30 pm daily. Lalita says, “This is when the children are most vulnerable and have no one to supervise them.” Instead of watching their mothers see “clients”, the children learn songs, finish their homework and eat a wholesome meal. In Lalita’s words, “Our prayer is to show the children how special they are to God and us.”

These just a couple of examples of how CMS is working to bring hope to people and situations that seem hopeless. CMS was born in 1799, in the crucible of the movement to abolish slavery in Britain. Today, inspired by the hope that one day all of creation will be restored to a loving relationship with God, we remain committed to evangelistic mission that is faithful, relational and pioneering.

We rely upon the generous support of those who share our vision to resource our life-changing work. Sponsored challenges are one of the best ways to raise support for us, and to involve many of your friends and family along the way!
