Report - Annapurna Trek
12 – 24 January 2008
Congratulations to our Annapurna Challengers!
“As the sun rose, the ethereal white of the mountain peaks began to change to delicate shades of pink and red. We would walk all week in the shadow of this mountain range. We would gaze, again and again, at the splendour of the roof of the world. But, for me, nothing will ever surpass the awesome beauty of that first morning. No photograph can convey the majesty of that first sunrise. I was there! I have seen the Himalayas in all their glory!” - David Phypers
Surrounded by the timeless beauty of the Annapurna range, a team of six volunteers spent the first part of 2008 raising money for CMS. The team consisted of John Currin, Linda Moores, Simon Petley, David Phypers, Jana van der Merwe, and CMS’ own Chris Woo. Despite the beautiful setting, the challenge was no walk in the park. The team trekked for 6 hours a day, for 7 days, through a demanding variety of landscapes and spent their nights under canvas. They spent time with mission workers in the local area and visited the Ebenezer Bible College in Kathmandu which is training people for the expansion of the Nepali church in remote areas.
The trekkers - who covered all of their own costs - made this sacrifice of time and money in order to raise sponsorship money for CMS. CMS believes in resourcing local people to reach local people with the love of Jesus. All the money raised by this trek will fund local mission work in the majority world.
Thank you to the Annapurna team for their commitment to the cause, and congratulations to them for surviving the challenge! If you would like to take up a similar challenge, please contact Sarah Thomas on +44 (0)1865 787518 or email challenges@cms-uk.org
