What is Encounter?
Are you willing to face the uncertainty of stepping into another
culture and to learn from the lives of Christians there? Are you
willing to be inspired, challenged and changed and to grow in your
faith? In order to connect more deeply with our brothers and sisters in
the multi-cultural Body of Christ we need to step into another’s shoes
and step out of our own, to risk being vulnerable, and to see things
from another’s perspective.
By joining a CMS Encounter you will have an opportunity to connect
with Christians who are seeking to make a difference in often
challenging situations around the world. We seek to nurture pilgrims,
not tourists, through team experiences which enable people to get
behind the headlines of another country’s news and find out more about
what is going on at a grass roots level. Each Encounter allows
participants to be immersed within a different culture for a brief but
intensive period with the opportunity to reflect upon and learn from
the experience.
Be more than a tourist with a mission experience of two to four weeks.
Join a group and make new friends or let CMS create a tailor-made
experience for your group.
Youth groups (16+)
A first taste of a different culture in the safety of a group and a
chance to grow personally and spiritually. CMS will work with youth
leaders to design a programme that meets your needs.
18 – 30s
For people who relish a challenge and want a genuine encounter with
another culture. Join in the local church’s mission and learn from the
Christians you meet.
25 +
No age limit 25–80-year-olds welcome, as long as you’re fit. A
two-week programme with plenty of time to reflect on your encounter
with another culture and expression of faith.
Don’t let these categories limit you – we can tailor experiences to
almost any group, often helping you to strengthen an existing link in
another country. Cost per person is usually between £900 and £1,500.
