It's about discovering a side of Christianity you didn't know, a Jesus you never expected.
Whether we realise it or not, for most of us our faith in Jesus has been shaped in part by our own particular culture. Encounter trips aim to help people shed that cultural baggage and discover how following Jesus is worked out in other cultures and communities.
By connecting with Christian communities in other cultures and taking part in grassroots ministry, your assumptions will be challenged and your worldview widened – in short you will discover a bigger Jesus.
While many short-term experiences seem to be mainly about 'doing something' for 'poor people', Encounter trips are primarily about immersing ourselves in another culture, recognising we have much to learn from others and letting these insights help shape our perspectives.
Although you will get a chance to serve in a wide variety of ministries, it's not about 'us' doing something for 'them'; it's about sharing in each other's lives.
