Sharing Jesus, Changing Lives
CMS members

Being part of a global community of mission can bring real inspiration. The 'My Story, My CMS' links on the right give you an insight into why people become members of CMS – and what's captured their heart about about the world church.

Who we are
Law 1 of CMS states we are a community of people in mission, obeying the call of God to proclaim the Gospel to all peoples and in all lands, especially in places “where the name of Jesus is rarely heard”.

Our vision is the unfolding of the fullness of Christ flowering in every place and in every culture – see Ephesians 1:22–23. In pursuing this vision,
  • we encourage people to live a mission
  • we equip people in mission service
  • we share resources for mission work
The CMS Community
There are many ways for people to contribute through CMS to fulfilling this vision: prayer, involvement in local and national activities, hospitality, joining with mission programmes and regular giving. Those wishing to make a deeper commitment are invited to become members and participate in the nomination and appointment of trustees.

Members of CMS make the following affirmations:

I shall try
  • to commend the Gospel of Christ by who I am, by what I say, by what I do for others
  • to use the Society as a means of keeping myself informed of the mission of the Church in all the world
  • to pray regularly for the furtherance of mission
  • to use my time and money responsibly as God’s gifts
  • and I shall encourage others to do the same
UK residents wishing to find out more about CMS membership should contact the Director of Mission and Community's PA, Alice Morgan, telephone 01865 787482.

In Britain, members and supporters are encouraged to form local groups. The first three CMS Associations were formed in 1813 and this established the lay origins of the Society.

Today, there are over 100 groups of members and supporters and new kinds of groups are emerging all the time. Some meet to encourage one another to live a mission lifestyle or pursue local mission. Others meet regularly for prayer and study, using CMS resources.

Members and supporters receive YES, the CMS magazine, and CONNECT, a six-page publication containing news and information for all members, and other material to use for prayer.
