There is no slavery but ignorance
That’s what the 19th century American civil rights pioneer Robert Ingersoll said.
It is two hundred years now since the abolition of the slave trade and in that time, the world has become familiar with the terrors of that evil business: the manacles, the cramped ships, the torture, the tyrannical traders. We’re not ignorant about the horrors of slavery anymore, thank goodness.
Or are we?
