Sharing Jesus, Changing Lives

Why does CMS care about slavery?

Among its founders was William Wilberforce, who campaigned within the British Parliament to have an Act passed to outlaw the slave trade.

Social justice has been integral to CMS's aims, programmes and vision.

Today's Church Mission Society, in a world that contains more slavery than in Wilberforce's day, cares deeply about continuing the legacy of its founders.

Throughout the last four years, CMS has been building the Setting Captives Free campaign to fight modern forms of slavery, including sex trafficking, use of child soldiers and various types of addiction.

How else is CMS involved with schools?
The Youth and Children's Team at CMS works to encourage teachers and young people to engage creatively with global issues by providing schools with high quality educational resources.

They offer workshops for schools to explore key questions such as freedom, poverty, injustice and mission, and try to enable a greater awareness of different cultures through developing school-to-school links.

CMS can facilitate visits and exchanges for teachers to different parts of the world through our extensive network of partners, and offers short-term overseas experiences for people aged 18+. They produce a monthly podcast, trax16, for young Christians aged 16+. Visit www.trax16.com to find out more.
