The Rev Sue Woodcock

Faith and courage: the Rev Sue Woodcock
The Rev Sue Woodcock, mission partner with SAMS and then CMS, has died this morning, 25 July, in Sabadell, Spain after a long battle with cancer.

Bishop Henry Scriven of CMS paid tribute to her faith and courage:

Sue stayed in Sabadell, near Barcelona, where she was the Rector of the Church of Christ within the Diocese of the Spanish Episcopal Reformed Church, after her diagnosis and outlived the doctors' prognosis by many months.

She was greatly supported by her congregation and many friends around the world who prayed for her. She is survived by two brothers and a sister.

Sue came to faith while studying Maths at Oxford University and subsequently studied theology and mission, serving in Iran, Uganda and Bolivia as well as in England where she was a member of St Aldate’s Church, Oxford.

After ordination by the Bishop of Oxford, Sue worked in Sabadell for eight years. She was for many of those years Vice President of the Diocesan Standing Committee as well as being the Archdeacon for Catalunya.

We give great thanks to God for Sue's strong faith and courage. She was well prepared and ready to be with Jesus whom she had served so faithfully. She leaves many people around the globe who give thanks to God for her witness and teaching. Her last text message to me was: "All is well with my soul. Praise the Lord!"

Details of memorial services

On Friday 14 September 2012 at 7.30pm in Sabadell there will be a service led by Bishop Carlos Lopez Lozano of the Spanish Episcopal Reformed Church. This will be in Spanish and Catalan, though there may be brief contributions in English.

On Monday 24 September 2012 at 2pm at St Aldates Church, Oxford there will be a service in English. St Aldates was Sue's sending church and she was connected to it since she came to faith as a student in Oxford. Bishop Henry Scriven (CMS) and the Reverend Charlie Cleverley (Rector of St Aldates) will be taking part as, we hope, will several other friends and colleagues of Sue over her years of ministry.
