Anita and Colin Smith
The Smith family live in Nairobi, Kenya. Colin is the director of the Centre for Urban Mission and Anita is licensed to All Saints Cathedral, and has a particular role among the International and settler community.
The Smith family are living in Nairobi, Kenya. They arrived in August 1999, and are working under the Anglican Archbishop Benjamin Nzimbi in the diocese of All Saints.
Colin is the director of the Centre for Urban Mission (CUM), which is part of Carlile College, and which is situated in the heart of Kibera, the largest slum in Nairobi. He is involved with the training of pastors and evangelists who come from a variety of denominations, but all of whom are working in the slums. The Centre offers both formal and informal courses. Colin is licensed to St Jerome parish in Kibera.
Anita is licensed to All Saints Cathedral, and has a particular role amongst the International and settler community. This is particularly through invitations from these communities to be involved in the pastoral services of baptisms, weddings, funerals and memorials, most of which take place outside of the cathedral.
Both Anita and Colin were CMS Volunteers in the early 1980’s; Anita in western Kenya, and Colin in India. They met and married while they were training for ordination at Trinity College, Bristol. They then served in parishes in Bermondsey and Forest Hill in South East London, before offering again to CMS.
Colin and Anita have two daughters, Sheila and Sandie. Sheila and Sandie are very settled in Kenya and are at Braeburn School in Nairobi, which is based on the English National Curriculum. They have both made good friends. The whole family are enjoying the beauty of Kenya, and in particular seeing some of the wildlife. They are finding their camping experiences to be slightly less tame than in the UK!
Please pray
Give thanks for the ministry of the different churches in the slums in Nairobi, and pray for the students on the courses through CUM in Kibera
Give thanks for All Saints’ Cathedral, with its many different services and ministries
Pray for Colin as he networks amongst those who minister in the slums in Kenya and other parts of Africa
Pray for Anita as she works amongst the International and settler communities
Pray for our safety on the roads, good health, and for us as a family
