Sharing Jesus, Changing Lives
Judy Acheson
Judy Acheson

Judy Acheson is the provincial youth and children’s worker for the Anglican Church in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She is concerned to challenge them to become true followers of Jesus and to discover their role in rebuilding the country.

Judy Acheson lives in Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As provincial youth and children's worker for the Anglican Church, she coordinates the work within the eight dioceses and the two Kasaïs.

She praises God for having excellent colleagues within the provincial office as well as the hardworking youth workers and those responsible for the children at diocesan level.

Together they challenge children and young people to become Christians and to live out their lives as Jesus called them to do – to help girls find their true place within society and to overcome the social prejudices against them; to help children to love Jesus, to know their rights and to realise that they are valuable members of society, and to help families overcome the marginalization of children. To help with this, youth manuals and Sunday school material are being written.

The department has established a centre in Mahagi to train youth leaders throughout the country. The training will be developed into a recognised three year diploma course and already they are seeing the value of properly trained personnel.

Because of the situation in recent years within the country, the department is involved in peace and reconciliation, offering training in understanding the complexities and the management of trauma, outreach and support for those who have been raped, establishing projects to help young people make a living because of the lack of employment including training in carpentry and tailoring workshops as well as income-generating projects to help each department with its own funding.

Please pray
  • For young people to be challenged by the new youth manual to stand strong for Jesus and to be active in the reconstruction of the Congo
  • That children may take their rightful place within society
  • For the training of leaders, locally and in Mahagi
  • For Bukasa as the provincial children's worker and Rev Azama as the girls' worker as they seek to establish this work throughout the country
  • For Judy as she coordinates the work with Fernand as administrator and Micky as accountant, and works towards handing over to Rev Bisoke in 2009
